Back in October, I was asked to go with the media and marketing team of LA Fitness to head out to Arizona for an amazing opportunity. The task was to interview Kira Martin, a trauma victim and mother who has overcome so many obstacles and continuing to do so with the use of LA Fitness gyms and a determined heart.
Kira has 5 children and during the birth of her 5th child, she began hemorrhaging and needed surgery immediately. Kira had Placenta accreta which is a severe complications where the placenta grows through the endometrium and surgery was required to stop the bleeding and fully remove the placenta.
“I understood nothing. All I knew was that I was awake, couldn’t move, and was suffocating. I tried my hardest to thrash and scream. I wanted them to know I couldn’t breathe.” – Kira Martin
Even though this horrific trauma happened this last March, Kira has overcome the odds and is now training herself as a body builder. Kira has done some amazing things and used fitness to exceed anyone’s expectations.
If you’d like to read her story from her words, Kira has an incredible blog that you can find here:

For the video, we flew to Tucson, AZ on October 20th and stayed for 2 days. As soon as we landed, we got to work. We set up the gym after hours to shoot some interviews. I primarily acted as B-cam and tried to focus mostly on detailed shots on my Blackmagic Cinema Camera. I also brought along my Zoom H6 audio recorder and shotgun mic attachment which worked out amazingly. We filmed late until the sunrise and then filmed her morning bike routine. After maybe 13 hours of filming, we got a chance to nap and then back at it again! Filmmaking is a difficult task, but when you love what you’re doing, you find the energy you need from the adrenaline you get while making it.
Check out the video that we did below.

RIP Kira Martin
I was just reading about what happened. This is so incredibly sad. She was an incredible person who I think about often when I think back on that weekend I got to be around her family. Amazing people, condolences to her family.
