Behind the Lens II
Austin vs Australia
Another day, another shot.
We’ve been hammering away with filming all the scenes to my Chapman application film. Everything is looking so great!
Last night, we filmed the big turning point in the film. It was the scene that depicted my home in Erskineville, Australia, being broken into and having my things stolen. Michael was back, Zander was back, and I snuck my girlfriend Jacqueline in as the crime scene investigator taking pictures.
We got the location locked down because of Jacqueline’s parents. They have a rental home that they rent out to people, and it just so happened to be vacant right now. So I loaded up my parents Yukon with my old things back home, and set up the room in the rental to be my room in Erskineville. We had to shoot it empty and then rush to get it all furnished.
I needed to think of a practical way to show police lights through the window for the scene of Michael coming to his room seeing things stolen. After a few failed ideas due to rolling shutter and ugly distortions showing up on camera due to the fast flickers of lights, I came up with the idea to use a projector and project police lights from the outside. So I downloaded some police lights fading in and out, burned it to a BluRay, then set up the projector outside. It ended up working really well! Plus a little bit of fog helped haze it up for some more drama.
